Kuroi Emulation

Description

Drawn for :iconmlp-atg-alumni:'s week 35 theme "Imitation".

So I don't read directions especially well apparently. As such, my drawing is not so much an emulation of a single work as it is of a family of works. To be specific, it was my intent to emulate ~KuroiTsubasaTenshi's distinctive style and approach.

My primary reference, other than his tutorials, was this particular image (my personal favorite amongst his works.)

There are a lot of things that bug me about my work, not the least of which being the way my scanner being to small screwed everything up. I don't know how I'm going to do it, but one day I'll get vengeance against that stupid machine. The second in the pondering hoof. And the last is that I never make Pinkie Pie's hair big enough. She has one seriously fluffy mane and I don't quite capture that.

Oh, and my abysmal shading (the element of most interest.) Admittedly, this particular style of shading is definitely new to me, but even still. If this effort has taught me one thing it's that I need better pressure control, period.

Oh, and how in the hell does he keep his paper clean?! I need to use white cotton gloves or something 'cause I ended up with smudges and fingerprints everywhere!

Also, for those interested I also did a few other things for this week, mirroring a specific work and a thematic style in the first and second ones respectively.

The front hoof seems to stand out from the rest of the body, it has much darker darks and more highlight than the rest of the picture. Also the hoof seems bent strangly, like it has joints where they shouldn't be. The back of the body seems a little undefined, its hard to tell where the back hoof begins and the body ends. The way this was framed it makes it difficult to fully draw out the pony if the page ends before the body does. The top of the mane also seems too small. This does does have nice contour lines around the face and mane though, it really dose give it a more demensional feel.
